Permitting

Research on the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge requires a permit approved by the US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS).

The Sevilleta LTER has a compiled permit with each individual research project as a subpermit. The main yearly permit review is in early November, when ongoing permits are renewed, and new and modified permits are reviewed. An additional permit review occurs in April as a chance for researchers to submit applications for new permits or permit modifications. Permits for inclusion under the LTER permit must be submitted to the SEV LTER Program Manager well in advance of the FWS permit deadline of April 15 or November 15. All permittees must carry a copy of their permit while on the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge and maintain records of person-days on the refuge and any personnel working on site. With each yearly renewal, permittees must also submit an interim report. After the deadline, permit applications are reviewed by a committee and approved or rejected.
